UL, LLC Laboratory Manager - Electrical & Electronics in Bangalore, India

Responsible for managing and operating designated laboratories of one or more business units or divisions within a business unit. Responsible for the development and achievement of operating plans, goals, and budgets including capital for their designated labs. Manages the staff and daily activity of the labs. Partners with management of engineering, laboratory operations, and business units to ensure customer satisfaction and achievement of business objectives. May participate in corporate or regional initiatives to address and resolve laboratory quality, technical consistency, and testing accuracy issues. Responsible for driving operational excellence by managing the day-to-day activities of various lab teams, guiding decisions on lab projects, project management, and opportunities within a highly matrixed organization.

  • Oversees the establishment of appropriate testing programs and the coordination of laboratory activities within the designated laboratories.

  • Ensures effective workflow by engaging with cross-functional leads and coordinating laboratory activities.

  • Identifies and pursues the development of requirements for test procedures beyond the scope of existing standards and requirements involving unique features and technical judgment.

  • Manages the development and maintenance of state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and test facilities.

  • Establishes and maintains the lab training program and competencies for all hierarchies of laboratory personnel to meet regulatory and various policy requirements.

  • Manages the performance of direct reports by defining accountabilities, establishing performance objectives, providing feedback and guidance, and ensuring that all policies are understood and adhered to.

  • Implements policies, procedures, and practices mandated for the laboratories to ensure compliance with ISO 17025 and other defined accreditation requirements for the designated laboratories.

  • Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job utilizing the Lean Sigma approach.

  • Acts as individual laboratory site leader when appropriate.

  • Acts as individual laboratory representative to participate in global or regional lab meetings or initiatives.

  • Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.

  • Performs other duties as directed.

• Should have good knowledge of product testing methodologies as per IS, IEC, and other standards.

• Exposure to managing third-party or manufacturer's lab operations according to ISO/IEC 17025.

• Preferably ISO/IEC 17025 trained and certified internal auditor.

• Preferably good Knowledge and exposure to various lab accreditations (NABL, BIS, CBTL, etc).

• Should have managed at least 10 or more direct reports (including training, competency development, and performance management).

• Strong analytical and project management is expected to exceed customer expectations.

• Strong knowledge of equipment, calibration, and test facility setup.

• Exposure in setting up of Lab test facility is an added advantage.

• Knowledge and exposure to Lean concepts, 5S methodology, and continuous improvement is an added advantage.

• Should have ability to work and collaborate in a matrix reporting environment with cultural differences.

• Should have good oral and written communication skills
