UL, LLC Energy Storage Lead, North America in Northbrook, Illinois

UL Renewables is seeking an Energy Storage Leader to lead the Storage and Renewable Energy teams that work on stand-alone storage as well as hybrid utility-scale systems and distributed grid transmission systems in support of our OEM, developer, independent power producer, financier institution, and utility customers.

While working within a collaborative team environment as the subject matter expert, you will assist and lead internal development initiatives to expand UL Solutions’ independent engineering, due diligence, and power market consulting practice to our growing customer base.

  • Manage the Energy Storage advisory services, providing global support to all of UL Solutions (ULS) Renewables.

  • Build customer intimacy and establish strong relationships through customer visits, analyzing business data and market trends.

  • Be the face of ULS within the Energy Storage industry. Represent ULS at industry-related functions such as seminars and trade shows.

  • Anticipate customer needs by creating strong partnerships with Sales and Business Development.

  • Provide proactive solutions for new business opportunities to secure revenue, profit margin, market share, and customer satisfaction.

  • Work collaboratively with the leaders for Solar and Wind advisory services within a matrixed team for fulfillment, and with regions outside North America.

  • Responsible for P&L and budget management.

  • Ensure financial targets (revenue, profit, enterprise value, etc.) are met.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering and power systems, engineering, physics, economics, data science from an accredited University. Master of Science degree, preferred.

  • Deep technical expertise in Energy Storage - an emphasis on Lithium-Ion chemistries but with knowledge of the various chemistries that comprise Energy Storage.

  • Deep understanding of energy wholesale markets and ISOs/RTOs with a background and experience from the energy industry, oil & gas industry, or other.

  • Customer-centric mindset and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Whether exploring new ways renewables and storage are dispatched, new market rules, tools, or getting to know a stakeholder, you are innovative and inquisitive.

  • Knowledge of the Energy Storage industry and existing relationships with clients and financial institutions.

  • Track record of P&L management.

  • Track record of people management. Ability to manage employee performance using performance expectations and goals and responding to employee relations issues.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of how decisions impact business results, working with a diverse team, and planning and thinking strategically.

  • Deep sense of process and continuous process improvement to scale best practices.

  • Working knowledge of industry tools used to model energy storage sizing, configuration, and dispatch capabilities.

  • Total Rewards: The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $180,000 and is based upon years of experience that is commensurate with the level of the position. All employees at UL Solutions are eligible for annual bonus compensation. The target for this position is 20% of the base salary offered. Employees are eligible for health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental & financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country, for the relevant position level. We also provide employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
